Description: A rollicking Appalachian love story told through folk tales and folk music! Half Mile Down follows one town's struggle after learning Round Valley Electric wishes to flood their town to create a lake. As the town bands together to try to save their homes, unlikely forces collide to underscore a classic Southern story of family, hope, and love. The performance will take place on the banks on Lake Lanier at the Olympic Venue on Clarks Bridge Rd, 10 minutes from Brenau University. Gates will open at 6 as the audience is transported back to the early 20th century, with outdoor games, food and drink. The performance begins at 8:15 p.m.. The show is approximately one hour and thirty minutes in length. All ages welcome. Tickets are "pay what you can," as this is a benefit, with all proceeds (after production costs) going to support the Soque River Watershed Association, which works to encourage the preservation of Georgia's natural waterways, and the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue, which was the site of the '96 Olympic Games and remains committed to preserving this historic site for use by the generations to come. This is a "green" event, with minimal waste, efficient LED lighting, and natural, organic foods and drinks. Patrons are encouraged to bring sunscreen and bug spray, and to wear walkable shoes, as this is an outdoor event. So bring your family and a picnic, and we'll see y'all on the lake, as we take a journey "Half Mile Down."
