Description: Dr. Sylwester Ratowt, Independent Scholar on the History of Science - “Mastodons, Oaks, and The Franklinia.” Sylwester will talk about political, economic and aesthetic motives that propelled Western men like Thomas Jefferson, William Bartram, and Andre Michaux to explore the flora and fauna of North America during the late 18th century.
