2nd Annual Blessing of Lake Lanier
| Description: |
Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Mission invites you to join us for our Second Annual Blessing of Lake Lanier on the Feast of Theophany, January 6th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Orthodox faithful celebrate the Feast of Theophany to commemorate Christ’s Baptism, which not only demonstrated the first step in the way of salvation for us, but also sanctified the waters themselves from the “demons of the deeps.” Every year in every Orthodox Church, a re-enactment of this Sanctification is performed in the rite of the Great Blessing of the Waters. In some locations where people live by a river, lake, or ocean, a custom of also blessing the local body of water has been practiced for many centuries. The blessing of our own Lake Lanier will take place at Thompson Bridge Park, located at the end of Dunlap Landing Road, which is north of First United Methodist Church on Thompson Bridge Road. |
