Road Watch: Holiday time

Packing your bags for a holiday road trip?

You might also visit the Web and check for weather conditions and gas prices.

It's nice that gas prices have dropped like a rock, but it still doesn't hurt to hunt, and there's a couple of Web sites handy about that.

I know that, for me, a bigger issue than petro is the weather. Our trip usually requires navigating the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee, and snowfall is in the forecast.

It's interstate travel, but flakes could turn to rain showers and then ice, and at high altitudes, that could mean real tricky conditions.

The good news for Georgia motorists is that state Department of Transportation projects are suspended during holiday time, so there shouldn't be any orange barrels clogging the way.

But traveling still could be slow, especially on interstates.

The message here: Drive safely, regardless of your destination, and Happy Thanksgiving.
