I think the producers made the biggest mistake of tonight. The show was just too rushed. Poor Paula was so confused she started reviewing Jason's second song he hadn't even sung yet. I guess they prepared remarks based on the rehearsal? That or Paula was way more out of it than usual. I'm not sure if I'll remember any of that Idol tomorrow. It was just too much in too little time, with no space for anything to really stand out.
Jason did better this week. Niel Diamond's style fit him much better than Andrew Lloyd Webber's. His second performance was weak; the ending was definitely weak.
David Cook gave two solid performance. I particularly loved the second one. His falsetto was great, as was the rest of the performance.
I just don't like Brooke on upbeat songs. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't that good either. Maybe it was just an overload of sunny, upbeat energy. The second was much better. Simon was right, that's the Brooke we like - the vulnerable one just singing behind a piano.
David Archuletta was pretty good on the first song. It wasn't anything special, though. On the second song, I liked the "My Country Tis of Thee" part. I wasn't as in love with the performance as the judges were, but he sang well.
I liked Syesha tonight. Everything else felt very rushed. The slower song from Syesha helped slow the pace, and she sang beautifully. The second song was actually fun without being karaoke, like Brooke was. I thought the song was memorable, though Simon disagreed; I don't think she deserves to go home tomorrow.
