Three Hall County high schools - Johnson, North Hall and West Hall - have made U.S. News and World Report's list of the top high schools in the country.

They are among 19 schools in Georgia and 1,591 nationwide making the list this year. The list is in the Dec. 3 issue.

"We analyzed data from thousands of schools to produce our list of the nation's best," the U.S. News and World Report said in a posting on its Web site. "The top schools are a diverse bunch, and each one has found its unique way to best teach our future leaders." What a great honor for our local students, staff, and community!

This is very encouraging, but must also be put into context. The 2008 rankings are based on data from the 2005-06 school year. Quite a bit has changed in Hall County since then. Also, because of the unavailability of data from some states, only 40 states were considered in the rankings.

Still, no contiguous county is on the list at all. These include local systems touted as the best around including Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Jefferson City. So with three of ours on the list, we do have some serious bragging rights.

"The top schools are a diverse bunch" ???? I didn't realize
that North Hall had enough "diversity" to be catagorized with JHS and WHHS. Could this be a mistake?????????????? I'm confused.

congrats to JHS and WHHS!!!

Yeah kuntriboy it is pretty amazing that they would allow JHS and WHHS to be on the same level as NH since they obviously aren't. NH is by far the better school. Congrats NH. Touche!

Oh and you are right JG a lot has changed because NH DOES offer AP classes.
