"If you want a friend, buy a dog."
That old line sure applies to blogging. Sharing opinions, facts and other nonsense on blogs just seems to provoke some people to rage.
But what's the root of the problem? Is it always what you say or how you say it?
The University of Illinois has a blurb on its Web site about what they call "Free Floating Anger."
Here's what it says:
"Free floating anger refers to a generalized angry feeling that can affect a person’s view of the world, their approach to life, and their responses to events.
A person with free floating anger may lash out in multiple ways. For example, free floating anger might be expressed verbally through body language, written expression, or actions.
Free floating anger also may be directed inward. The angry person and those around him may not be able to identify a direct cause of the anger.
"When people are angry without apparent cause, it is important to help them find the underlying cause, or to encourage them to talk with a professional. It is important to find a positive way to act on their anger."

We've all seen such reactions and overreactions here and elsewhere. Simple expressions can just freak people out and cause responses similar to road rage.
Don't take it personally. Speak your mind and realize that if you project a hostile manner you're going to be blasted back. Allow other bloggers to speak their minds. We can all learn from people who have different views.
But remember, if you speak softy and kindly, you're still going to be blasted, by somebody.
Just give it your best shot, then go play with your dog. Don't let people get you down.
