With all the talent that Gainesville quarterback Deshaun Watson possesses, it was just a matter of time before he picked up his first college scholarship offer. However, it probably surprised even the Red Elephants' coaching staff a bit when Clemson University offered Watson, a rising sophomore, on the spot during Wednesday's visit to visit the Tigers.
"He loved it there," Red Elephants assistant coach Wayne Jones said. "Since Deshaun's so young, it would be easy to get overwhelmed."
With Clemson's offer on the table, Watson's next visit will be to the University of Florida for its annual Friday Night Lights camp for prospects in July.
According to Jones, Watson's favorites right now are Clemson, Florida, Tennessee, Oregon and Texas. As a freshman, Watson passed for 1,961 yards, 18 touchdowns and led Gainesville to a Region 8-AAA championship.
CROSS STILL SET ON TENNESSEE: Despite college scouts still pursuing North Hall rising senior running back Imani Cross, he says he's still solid with his verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee.
Since the spring, Cross picked up offers from Vanderbilt and Maryland, and also visited North Carolina. He already held offers from Mississippi State, Central Florida, Georgia Tech and Virginia.
Cross says he's at full strength since his torn achillies injury prior to his junior season. For those that haven't seen Cross run, here's his junior highlight tape via Youtube.
