If you haven't heard yet, Ellen DeGeneres will replace Paula on the judging panel at "American Idol." Paula stepped down earlier this year.

Ellen said she represents the people's view, having no professional experience with music. I think with three other judges who can comment on the technical side of things, Ellen will be a good addition.

She adds humor that may have been lost with crazy Paula off the show. And ultimately it's America who picks the winner, and most Americans aren't professionals in the music business.

The only thing I'm not sure about is what kind of music Ellen likes, and how that may affect her. I know it affects my choices; usually I'd much rather vote for a rock singer than an R&B singer, even if the R&B singer is better technically. But there are three other judges to keep that in line, I suppose.
