As a parent, all you see are different ways your child can get injured. If you're not careful, you can easily start down a path of thinking most anything is dangerous for your child, between falling out of bed in the morning to ingesting too much toothpaste as they brush their teeth at night.
So, I've made a vow to not go down the path of constant worry, and instead wish for a childhood for Sofia that's at least slightly fraught with a little ... well ... danger.
fine, hate me or call me a horrible parent. Whatever. The worst thing I ever did as a kid was sneak down in the ravine next to my grandpap's house and pop these weird mysterious pollen-filled puffballs with my younger sister. Big whoop.
So, here's a little list of some of the things I hope Sofia gets to do by the time she's 10:
1. Ride her bike down to the corner and buy a tamale from the little old guy who sells them out of a cooler for $1.
2. Since we live within walking distance to her elementary school, it would be great to let her make the trek on a regular basis, cutting through the unofficial dog park/neighbor's yard and through a couple gates along the way.
3. Explore the abandoned field around the corner from our house. Maybe make a fort there.
4. Help her mom build a really cool treehouse.
5. Influence some other kid who has been raised by a mother or father who won't let them do anything daredevilish into doing that one thing they really want to do.
